THE WHITE TIGER: The Foundation Series - 1
PART 1: The obvious is usually profoundly significant - E. O. Wilson
There are a few different parts to the human psyche, and we will cover all of them. In the Foundation Series Part I, we will cover “what makes us tick” from a neurobiological perspective, or put more simply - from a physical level. This level is the starting point from which all human behavior, non-pathological, is derived, and where the impact begins on the human psyche. This is the “Why?” There are no exceptions in the human experience.
The cortex of our brain, the 5 layers of cells that cover the surface, is responsible for conscious thought. Depending upon which resource you utilize, the statistic is that 80-95% of our behavior is driven by the unconscious or subconscious mind. Feel free to Google that up. Take a moment to pause and consider this. 80-95% is called a statistically significant number. That means that it counts. It means that you simply cannot ignore that fact, and it must be factored into the understanding of the human psyche.
As a specie we have become so fascinated with our cortex, and our ability to think and problem solve, we have led ourselves to believe that we can out think our own minds and behaviors. Look at the statistic. Is that idea even possible? Can 10% override or overcome 90%? Ninety percent of which never enters conscious thought? If we are not conscious of it, how are we going to out think it? We have even created an adage out of this idea, “Mind over matter.” As a practitioner, I have watched the devastating outcome of those who feel that they have failed, even in life, because they were not successful in getting their mind to overcome their matter. Here is where my practice diverges from the mainstream. It is just not statistically possible to out think your subconscious and unconscious mind. It is not logical to cling to this concept with expectations of great success. To be clear, when speaking about “Mind over matter” in this context, it is strictly within the application to psychological healing. It is not about whether you can make yourself bench press 200 pounds. That is a completely different concept that we will have an awesome discussion about in the future. What all of this means is that if anyone is looking for profound and complete healing, what is happening below the cortex must be factored in, taken into account, addressed and utilized. So let’s start where it all begins, and continues, below the cortex.
